Which months are best
Central Vietnam has a dry season and a wet season. February to April is usually the most comfortable: mild, bright and fairly dry. May to August is hot and sunny, so shoots work best early or late in the day. Heavy rain is most likely from October to December.
Which hour to book
Early morning gives you empty lanes and soft light on the yellow walls. By late morning the sun is high and the old town is busy. From mid-afternoon the light turns warm again, and the last hour before sunset is the one most people remember.
Want the lanterns?
The town lights up at dusk, and the river is at its best from a boat. If lanterns are the reason you came, book a late slot or the VIP package, which ends on the water.
